Industrial Design Engineer

Basic Purpose

Reporting directly to the Industrial Engineering Manager, the Industrial Design Engineer is responsible for managing the Engineering Change (ECN), Engineering Release (ERN), and Qualification processes.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains all product design information – product drawings, specifications, bills of material, and routing.
  • Manages the Value Engineered Request process by assessing customer requirements for all non-price list items.
  • Creates a cost-effective design to meet customer requirements on a timely basis.
  • Provides all required inputs to maintain a current price list.
  • Responsible for new product development projects as assigned and performs competitive analysis, prototype testing, and evaluation.
  • Participates in the market needs assessment process.
  • Plans Engineering Release Notices, Value Engineer Requests, Engineering Change notices, Product Launch Process for assigned projects, and product development projects for assigned projects.
  • Maintains accuracy of item master and monitors standards and adjusts as necessary.
  • Maintains engineering drawings, logbook, and controlled copies.
  • Responsible for the Engineering Change (ECN) procedure, Engineering Release (ERN) procedure, Value Engineered Request Notice (VER) procedure, and the Product Launch Process on assigned projects.
  • Performs competitive analysis and training as required.
  • Develops, tests, and evaluates new products.
  • Plans product training and presentations.
  • Creates and maintains product submittals.
  • Trains engineering, production, and support groups in all proper procedures.
  • Manages industrial engineering and design department and staff.
  • Accountable for proper standards for products, adherence to proper VER, ECN, and ERN procedures, 1104 cost center budget, and project budget, performance, and schedule.
  • Responsible for reviewing, completing, and updating design changes that affect product compliance for Access Flooring.
  • Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; report all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial or mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in industrial engineering, automated manufacturing, project management, and proficiency with Autocad.
  • Proficiency in industrial designs, new product introduction, and manufacturing processes and controls.
  • Skills required: design for manufacturability, process time studies, testing and evaluation, technical writing, and professional level presentations.
